Rape is a way of life for Darfur's women

ZAM ZAM DISPLACEMENT CAMP,
Sudan (CNN) -- Sudan's Darfur crisis has exploded on many fronts -- violence, hunger, displacement and looting -- but United Nations peacekeepers say the biggest issue now affecting the region is the systematic rape of women and children.

Thousands of women as young as 4 caught in the middle of the struggle between rebel forces and government-backed militias have become victims of rape, they say, with some aid groups claiming that it is being used as a weapon of ethnic cleansing.

"That is one of the biggest issues in Darfur: the rapes, and crimes against women and children," said Michael Fryer, police commissioner of UNAMID, the United Nations peacekeeping force deployed to try to tackle the violence.

Relief workers say they are powerless to stop the attacks and say that if they do speak out, they fear that the Sudanese government will tell them to leave the country.

Humanitarian group Refugees International said in a report last year that rape was "an integral part of the pattern of violence that the government of Sudan is inflicting upon the targeted ethnic groups in Darfur." Read more >>>>>>>>>>

If Darfur had oil everywhere the Bush administration would declare the rapists as a threat to world stability and we would send in the Marines-but since they have nothing the US Govt wants-we just sit back and twiddle our thumbs!
Allowing genocide and acts like this to go on is a disgrace to humanity!
Where the Hell is the United Nations?

Rob asks where the hell is the United Nations on this issue. Here is where it is: One of the higher-ups in the United Nations has now announced and declared that rape is an effective weapon in war. Talk about dumb! What sane person would acknowledge that. Rape is not a weapon in war and we should not permit anyone to use it as one. All rapists should be punished to the fullest extent of the law --even those who commit rape during wartime in wars.

It is interesting that no matter what the question or what the accusations, some still find a way to associate the name Bush with the problem. You cannot accuse Bush for all the problems in the world.

Rapists are low-class, disgusting individuals , even if the rapist wears a uniform and is fighting in a war. Rapists are INDIVIDUAL SICKOS, and to even associate those crimes with Bush is utterly rediculous.

Yes, I understand what is written and what I also understand is when people do not have an answer to a question or problem, they use the cookie cutter answer to blame the President. That is really getting OLD!

Rape is rape; rapists are sickos! Rapists need to be punished FULLY. Go get the war rapists, find them and prosecute them, NOW. Thanks for listening to my opinion.
